The challenge
A suction dredger was suffering from outdated drives, high fuel consumption and limited deployability.
The client wanted to investigate whether modernization, particularly electrification, could help make the plant more efficient, reliable and future-proof.
The core question:
What is technically and economically feasible within the existing installation and which choices provide the most value?
Our approach
We started with an on-site visit, where we reviewed the process in operation, assessed the layout of the dredge and discussed with the customer the requirements and bottlenecks.
Based on this, we conducted a design study in which we:
Our goal was to bring overview to a complex issue. The outcome was one coherent and substantiated overall picture: what is technically possible, what does it yield, and what does it require in practice?
The result
The client now has a clear and complete feasibility study.
This outlines what is technically achievable within the existing installation, what electrification will yield and which design and modernization directions make the most sense.
Alongside the technical analysis, the study also includes an estimate of investment costs (CAPEX) and the expected effects on operating costs (OPEX).
This reveals which options are financially attractive and which choices offer the most value in the longer term.
We compiled the various scenarios and their consequences into a single overview and presented it to the board.
Based on this, the client can now determine in a targeted way whether and how the conversion will be carried out and what follow-up steps are needed towards engineering or procurement.
