Deepening waterways for safe navigation
The Process of Dredging
Dredging is the process of deepening the bottom of a river, canal, or harbor. Imagine that more and more sand, mud, and debris keep settling on the bottom. If nothing is done about it, the water will gradually become shallower, potentially causing boats to get stuck.
During dredging, we use a type of large vacuum cleaner or excavator that operates underwater. This device sucks up or scoops away all the sand and mud from the bottom and moves it to another location. Sometimes the sand is placed on land to make beaches or islands larger. This way, the water remains deep enough for boats, and everything stays tidy.
